JN: Can you tell us about your experience with neurodiversity? When did you realise you weren’t neurotypical? What challenges did you face? What changes came post-diagnosis? What challenges do you still face now? What neuroexceptional strengths are you leaning into now?
- Discovered autism diagnosis at age 43 after severe burnout.
- Experienced insomnia, tinnitus, brain fog, and anxiety after leaving Google.
- Diagnosis shifted worldview, provided clarity on personal limits and strengths.
- Realised need for sustainable work habits and boundaries.
- Leveraging deep problem-solving abilities and unique thinking patterns in new roles.
JC: What “work” projects are you concentrating on?
- Preparing to join a new AI-related role focused on renewable energy transition.
- Excited to return to deep collaboration with talented teams.
- Applying AI research, model fine-tuning, and tool-building skills to real-world challenges.
JN: How about the rest of the time? What do you enjoy doing in your off time?
- Focused mainly on family life and recovery.
- Formerly active in improv comedy, learned valuable teamwork and communication skills.
- Occasionally gives AI-related speeches and consults for clients.
JC: Productivity tips – What do you do to optimise productivity during your working hours? What is some unhelpful productivity advice that doesn’t work for you?
- Avoids overcommitment and challenges the need to be in every meeting.
- Lets go of perfectionism and inbox zero obsession.
- Prioritises delegation and focusing on high-impact tasks.
- Recognises that relentless detail focus can harm health and team morale.
JN: What does your morning routine look like and how has it evolved over time?
- Used to maintain a strict routine (meditation, journaling, exercise).
- Now adopts a flexible approach due to parenting demands.
- Journaling and meditation remain key practices when possible.
- Avoids rigid perfectionism about routines to reduce stress.
JC: How is your sleep? How do you switch off at night?
- Diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in 2020, uses CPAP machine (partial relief).
- Finds sleep quality still impacted; takes supplements and uses Sudoku to wind down.
- Balances family responsibilities with rest needs, though nights remain unpredictable.
JN: Where can people connect with you or find your work?
JC: Do you have any final words or asks for our audience?
- Practice compassion for others’ unique neurology and for your own brain.
- Avoid internalising ableism—give yourself permission to rest and adapt.
- Understanding and empathy can make the world a better place for everyone.
